The center will be established in Nampula Province through the upgrading of the current Namialo Cotton Seed Research and Multiplication Center (CIMSAN), which in addition to research will be responsible for technical and professional training.
This center will be established as part of the bilateral project between Mozambique and Brazil "Cotton Paths", signed in 2023, with a budget of USD 3.8 million, with the aim of contributing to the organization of Mozambique's cotton production chain, by disseminating new technologies and training qualified staff for the cotton sub-sector, as well as developing management skills and improving the quality of the seed and fibre.
CIMSAN's requalification works are scheduled to begin in October 2024 and will be preceded by the design of architectural and engineering projects, which will take place from July of this year.
This information was provided during the seminar on Brazil-Mozambique Technical Cooperation in the area of Cotton, which took place on May 16, 2023, in Maputo City.
