Opportunities for the development of the oilseeds value chain announced and cooperation agreement signed with ENI

On February 28, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADER) through the Cotton and Oilseeds Institute of Mozambique (IAOM, IP) brought together stakeholders from the oilseeds value chain with the aim of publicizing the opportunities that exist in the value chain. The event highlighted the potential for oilseed production with a view to replacing imports of cooking oil, animal supplementation and biofuel production.

This event was also marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Italian oil company ENI, which aims to establish a partnership in the development of agricultural projects to produce biofuels from the raw materials produced by small producers. This initiative safeguards the principles of prioritizing the production of oilseeds for food consumption, integrating family farmers into production value chains and growing crops in areas that are not in competition with food production.

The signing of the agreement launches Mozambique's quest to explore emerging markets with a view to expanding the oilseed value chain, as ENI has a large capacity to absorb oilseeds with a view to actively contributing to global efforts towards energy transition and sustainability;

The ceremony was led by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Celso Ismael Correia, and was attended by various players from the public and private sectors and civil society organizations.
