
Sesame Production in Mozambique
In Mozambique, sesame, Sesamum indicum, L., also known as sesame, is produced by family and commercial producers mainly in the provinces of Sofala, Manica, Tete, Zambezia, Nampula, Niassa and Cabo Delgado. Data from the last Agrarian Survey (2020) indicate that sesame production in the country, in the agrarian campaign 2019/20, was about 125,000 tons in an area of about 283,900 hectares, data that point to an involvement of about 588,000 producers. For the agrarian campaign 2020/21, the sesame, recorded a production of about 291,000 tons.
