Sesame production in Mozambique

In Mozambique, sesame, Sesamum indicum, L., also known as sesame, is produced by family and commercial producers mainly in the provinces of Sofala, Manica, Tete, Zambézia, Nampula, Niassa and Cabo Delgado. Data from the latest Agrarian Survey (2020) indicates that sesame production in the country in the 2019/20 crop year was around 125,000 tons in an area of around 283,900 hectares, which points to the involvement of around 588,000 producers. For the 2020/21 crop year, sesame production was around 291,000 tons.
